Ellen Weitkamp’s studio practice is a paced and daily conversation with place, meditating on how she negotiates where the past, present and future lie. Pulling from images from her everyday, she is rediscovering the space she inhabits and her place within it. Often these are mundane moments that allow her to pause and be present. In choosing emotionally prismatic spaces that felt fractured but were real or moments that she digitally altered to feel more emotionally authentic, Weitkamp’s scenes are more about the emotional space than just the visual. With the amount of time spent on each work, her paintings become memorials to the now as she accepts time will continue to pass.

Ellen Weitkamp was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri and received her BFA in Painting and Art History from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2019. She is currently an MFA Painting candidate at Boston University and resides in Boston, Massachusetts.
